We're starting up a GoFundMe to help my roommate, who was picked up and detained by #ICE yesterday. Regardless of the legal outcome of his case, we need to make sure this guy has the resources to survive whatever happens.

Our best friend, the most wonderful human being on the planet has been detained by ICE, Immigration Customs Enforcement. He was taken from his home yesterday 8/28/19 at 7:30 AM by people claiming to be “police officers” who were in fact ICE. They said they had a warrant but never physically prese...

Part of what makes this so scary is that Oumar is a refugee seeking political asylum. He's part of a targeted ethnic group in Chad, and his family has ties to a previous presidential cabinet that was violently overthrown by an opposition group.

I read over his asylum document this morning, and it's beyond horrendous. Like, masked-people-in-your-home-with-guns bad. Some of his extended family has gone missing, or otherwise been tortured.
Update to this story: after sitting in ICE detention since August, Oumar was loaded onto a plane this week and deported back to Chad. He was dumped at an airport somewhere in the capital city.

His friends currently aren't sure how to reach him, or connect him with family. Collectively, we were able to raise $11,000 for his cause, and that money will help him get back on his feet in the country of his birth.

My only hope is that he'll be quickly reconnected with his father and extended family, and that he'll be able to rebuild his life there. I know his friends in SF will miss him dearly.
