@xuv just read this article about #gab & #mastodon: https://www.theverge.com/2019/7/12/20691957/mastodon-decentralized-social-network-gab-migration-fediverse-app-blocking
is it relevant? it gives me the sensation that mastodon as a solution should/must acts differently from centralised soc.networks, but it does not really proposes the path to a solution

How the biggest decentralized social network is dealing with its Nazi problem

Mastodon is a decentralized social network designed to be accessible to anyone. It’s now dealing with the migration of Gab, a social network known for far-right extremism.

@frankiezafe @xuv the only solution that is not against freedom of speech is to leave the blocking in the hands of individual people, any attempt to do it by admins without some democratic backing is openly authoritarian and reveals the hypocrisy of the fediverse as a whole.
@wisniepr @xuv ok, but an option to block all streams from a specific instance should be available: blocking user by user will be so painful that it will harm communities
@frankiezafe Hey. Just want to say here that it is available to all Mastodon instance admins to block any other instance they want and do this for all their users. There is even 2 ways to do it. You can completely block another instance, or just silence it. If you silence it, it still permits your users to follow individual accounts on the silenced instance. It's just that their content does not appear in the federated timeline.
@xuv is there a way to know wich instances are muted or blocked when you are a user?
@frankiezafe Not that I know of. You have to trust your admin.
@xuv okay

@frankiezafe maybe this account will give you some info: @status

Or ask your admin.
