@maloki I wasn't even aware of that stance at the time! So while technically "no" would be a true answer here, putting that would also be deceptive, because the stance WOULD have appealed to me if I had known about it.

@maloki I need to understand what "appeal" means.

Do I like the idea in general? Sure.

Did it influence my decision to join? No.

@maloki I joined for "No Corporations Controlling My Data"
@maloki I joined before it was made explicit but the potential very much appealed to me.
@muraii when did you join?
@maloki Hmm. Not sure. I wanna say 18-24 months ago?
@muraii yeah I'm going on 2 years, but I'm pretty sure it was explicit back then, but who knows. 🤷
@maloki My memory is :garbage-fire:. I was just going by @Gargaron's comment yesterday that it was documented explicitly only recently, but I guarantee I was aware of it being part of the platform's promise. Positively petulant.
@maloki Yup, got no time for that
@maloki I joined because I wanted to be on the platform that enabled switter. I heard the "no nazis" line, but assumed it was marketing exaggeration, bc a tool can't silence nazis and also be able to guarantee a voice for sex workers. Even if the whole fediverse was gab and quodverum and freespeechextremist, switter could still exist, and sex workers could still use it to talk to each other and clients and to keep themselves safe. I think that kind of resilience is really beautiful.

@maloki As i recall, i didnt start hearing the 'no nazis' tagline until after i joined Mastodon (I would say 3-6 months after, specifically). I actually found out about Mastodon through a Medium article linked on LinkedIn (of all places), and since i found Twitter lacking, I felt i'd give it a try.

Although if i *had* heard it at the time i first hopped on, it really wouldnt sway me one way or another; when you're black long enough you realize things like 'no nazis' is more sizzle than steak.

@somarasu I was actually pretty sure that'd be your conclusion. :)
@maloki
What can i say, im consistent in my views 😂
But, on a more optimistic note: I think if *ANY* sort of platform's gonna be able to make 'no nazis' a thing it'll be this one.
@maloki yes, a little when I first joined and a lot when I started paying attention again a few months later (the initial big wave of coverage)
