rodrigo@maloki When I found out unpaid internships are not only common but normalized in the US I was shocked. When I was an intern I did more work than the actual developers but I was at the very least getting a decent amount of compensation for it.
kiki@maloki stewart lee has spoken before about how when he moved to london in the 80s he was a research intern for a newspaper, which gave him enough money to be able to spend the rest of his time writing and working on his own projects
today that role is unpaid, so that life is basically unachievable unless you're already wealthy

@maloki in the US it’s technically illegal to have an internship with no compensation, but it still happens all the time because there’s very little regulation or oversight of any kind. I’m very grateful that my internship both gave me class credit and paid me above minimum wage last year.
