I’ve been reading a whole bunch with my extra time. Currently reading Samanta Schweblin’s Mouthful of Birds. As with any short story collection they’re not all winners, but when they’re good, damn they’re good. ‘Preserves’ and the title story were the best so far, imo.
So far this year. Definitely slowed down after January for the most part, but also reading longer books.

Just about finished reading this one and those two remain the best stories. A couple of the others are decent as well but most are just falling flat for me.

It feels like something is missing from them, to give them a point in a way. I wonder if this could be a result of the translation not quite lining up with the original? That or they needed to be longer to flesh them out more.

Either way, after Fever Dream, this was largely a dud.
