Okay. Groundhog Day ideas. Go
/ping @wobin and @scarydan
@drbuttocks @scarydan hm, we need a source of the time loop, the setting and the reason for the insertion. You could make it not obvious a loop with death, but perhaps start with a preamble description and then when the loop occurs, just launch into the preamble straight faced, not even acknowledging the reset or even the abrupt change of subject...
@wobin @scarydan
I'm tossing around the idea of something they do in the adventure immediately preceding it being the cause of the loop starting. Not directly their actions, but like a cascade of things that flow on from it.
@wobin @scarydan
I do like that idea of it not necessarily being their death that's the reset point.
@drbuttocks @scarydan sleeping might be problematic but certainly a hidden trigger otherwise
@wobin
Been doing some plotting with a mild drunk to get the juices flowing. Got the loop coming from interference from the wobbly time effects of the Feywild.
@wobin
Main cause is far away, but they'll be able to traverse the Feywild to get there (where they'll be subject to loops again). Also gonna make them work with a villain who escaped them previously.
Still need the setup (I want an immediately earlier adventure to lead into this and involve a burrowing monster - the "groundhog") and specifics of what they encounter in the Feywild along the way but I'm comfortable with the outline of the arc right now
@drbuttocks I can see the approach of the Ground Hog as being a giant burrowing creature, but also consider an a endless swarm of burrowing creatures could be very terrifying with how it could control the battleground =D
@wobin
Am considering a bulette or umber hulk for combat solutions, or a young brass dragon that they need to find a place for and convince, so far
@wobin
Will probably have to be very metaphorical with the meaning of "groundhog" :P
@drbuttocks giant beaver that's chewing down trees in the Feywild and causing issues cause of that =D
@drbuttocks I mean, there's nothing stopping you from taking the bulette stats and 'reskinning' it =)
@wobin
The more I think, the more likely I'm thinking: they discover something word which leads to a very creature wanting to maintain a link to the feywild, but a young brass dragon sees no reason why it shouldn't make it's lair there, disrupting the portal. Players then need to find a place that suits everyone and then clear it out for the dragon to move it (as the dragon won't stoop to getting its own hands dirt like that)
@wobin
Doesn't quite fit the "scaring" part I was going for with the burrowing creature. Unless I make the competitor for the new lair a burrower...
Hmmmm
@drbuttocks @wobin i am breathlessly sorry that I missed this whole discussion
@scarydan @drbuttocks I see no reason why you cannot contribute even now!
@wobin @scarydan Oh man. The start of this is now the upcoming arc (though the main part won't come until later), and I'm still dithering over if it will work or not.
