Miss the days of my Powerbook G4 with Yellowdog Linux on it ... just run MOL and I had a OS 9 and OS X right there running within for my tech work. Interesting how well it worked and how x86 cannot duplicate it.
@tekmav Yeah, it's kind of a weird situation, because the CPUs are certainly more powerful, but the programs don't seem to be as efficient. Also, would much rather have an awesome RISC system like POWER than the stagnant CISC AMD64 market we've been stuck with until recently.
@architect Totally agreed. When Apple abandoned the Power platform just as IBM was ramping it up ... we should have adopted it as a mainstay for Linux. Would have been the awesome desktop.
@tekmav Especially now that POWER is capable of SMT-8, getting 96 threads on a 12 core CPU! While intel still boasts about the SMT-2 trademark. Would've been interesting to see how things would've turned out differently if AMD's CMT had gained any traction as well
