also it seems that the orbit doesn't decay unless i'm actually watching it? weird.
@nezclaw
Orbit decay isn't really a thing in KSP unless you are within the atmosphere (or using a realism mod). But yeah, docking is easier at higher orbits, and even easier when you jump between ships (square brackets) and use targeting to point the ports at each other.
@gdorn i did the docking training scenario and successfully docked! why i didn't do that in the first place is beyond me.
@nezclaw
Cool! Docking opens up a lot of opportunities; I have a mining operation on Minmus and a "fuel truck" that moves fuel to a space station in Minmus orbit. It reduces the dV needed for interplanetary missions significantly; any ship that can make it to Minmus orbit can get refueled and can then make it almost anywhere in the system and back (with some notable exceptions...)
@gdorn so how does that work? I haven't gotten that far yet, can you actually extract rocket fuel via mining?
@nezclaw
There's a couple ore extractors, and ISRUs to convert ore into fuel. Mods extend this a lot, with more fuel types and even some non-fuels to turn ore into.
