Drinking some #yaupon tea. I ordered a sampler pack of like 5 different flavors last week.

I tried the regular Yaupon, called like "healing magic" or some shit. Pretty much tastes like weak yerba mate, but I could have brewed it wrong.

Tried Elderberry Hibiscus, which was alright. A little tart, fun purple color.

This one is "Mindful Mint". I think it's my fav so far. I like mint tea. I hardly ever drink it. Bonus if it wakes me up. 🍵

@teslas_moustache My experience with #guayusa (another holly tea) has been about the same. I happened to find tins of it at a Grocery Outlet for like $1 apiece, so I got one of each flavor: hibiscus berry, ginger-orange, mint, and cinnamon-lemongrass. I like the hibiscus berry the least, the mint is the best, and the other two are decent.

They also taste very weak to me so I use more leaf and steep them for almost twice as long, compared to the package recommendation. They also make very nice iced teas, and blend well with other teas and herbs when iced! This week I've been drinking an iced blend of ginger-orange guayusa, fresh ginger root, and oolong.

@nessotropheion also, the species name of yaupon is 'ilex vomitoria' due to an apparently apocryphal belief that indigenous people would make "black drink" of it and vomit. Again, this is almost definitely not true, but I do have to admit to some queasiness a few minutes after drinking it.
@teslas_moustache I remember reading about the black drink in Dale Pendell's Pharmako/poeia series back in high school, and when I showed my mom she said that yaupon was used as a landscaping shrub all over Houston when she was a kid. Both yaupon and guayusa make her kinda queasy.
