Somebody is going into the forest I love, cutting up huge fallen trees, and carting away the wood. I suspect the person doing this is running a 'firewood for sale' business, but I can't be sure.

I think there is some stealth involved.

Lately I've noticed that fallen trees in the forest are being chopped into sections and taken away. Who is doing this? I decided to find out.

I took the dog and headed into the woods. Between my suspicions and the dog's fine tracking ability, it was no problem. Found the guy. Snuck up on him while he was working. Got within about 15 feet before giving him a loud "hello!" which startled him a good deal. A little evil of me, I guess, but very fun.

@skiring

So, was he selling the wood, burning it himself, or just trying to clear up dead trees?

@danjones The woodcutter says that his boss has a contract to clear fallen trees from this section of forest. I don't believe him.

His boss is selling the wood as firewood.

@skiring But what if he really has to remove fallen trees.. and what are you going to do with all the wood? Burn them away? That'd be a waste, I can see the sense in selling it as firewood in that case.

@trinsec Sure. I can see the sense in that, too.

The question is whether the guy's company does have a contract to do this, or whether he's lying about that. If the latter, he's just stealing wood and using a great cover story
