Just want to share a quick useful tip I learned from a police officer today.

If you work in a setting where you've to shake a lot of strangers hands, like I do.

You'll sometimes find that some people (cough, men), is out to crush every bone in your hand.

What you can do to avoid having your fingers broken, is to put your index finger on their wrist. This way, they can't put as much force into the handshake.

I had no clue about this, and all this time I've suffered 😫

Can confirm. Most men view handshakes as a challenge to crush each other's hand.

I'm usually too slow to get a good grip, so my hand is the wet noodle. I have asked for a redo many times because of this.

I can see it would be easy to carry this over to someone who is NOT playing the Hand Crush Game.

Is this a Masonic handshake? It would make sense, coming from a policeman...
@emelie another thing you can try alongside that, if the hand shake is going for an awkwardly long time for example, is to "tickle" their palm with your index finger's nail. It's such a weird feeling in the middle of a hand shake it'll make them retreat immediately.
The kids used to do it in school just to see who would pull back from the hand shake.
@blackcorvo oh, that's a great tip! I hadn't thought of that ✨
