can we make a communist MMO? Take world of warcraft, but instead of collecting money to buy things you just have to be good enough to use equipment and maybe find materials to make it, but then you could also pass on your old equipment to people who are also working their way up.

I don't think it would take all that much of a change in terms of game play mechanics.

instead of artificial scarcity being what prevents new players from using the best equipment you have it set up so that they are just not skilled enough to use it effectively. So it may make sense to make it much less equipment based and have skills be the main progress indicator.

And you work together because things are easier with more people and you can do more.

I also thing it would be neat to have guilds based around crafts and skills. To get better at a skill you would go and do things with someone who is already skilled and that would help you learn.
@inmysocks ooooh, this is firing up my brain with ideas for skill systems!
@zatnosk yes, I am very tempted to ignore work for the rest of the day to try and write up a some more basic ideas for the world.
@inmysocks if anything is applicable to a collaborative gardening MMO, I'd love to hear it.
@zatnosk I will think about that. I hadn't thought of going in that direction but I think it could work well.
@inmysocks specifically, it's for my #MastoCity garden project, which (while currently moving at glacial speed) I intend to make work!
