So... I read a bit more about #writefreely, specifically in the forums. I didn't like the way the devs pushed their own paid service onto ppl. I can see that funding your project this important, but it just seems... sneaky and not really truthful to first say "Hey, install it, it's free!" - and when users run into problems say "Hey, just use our service, it works!"

That's not what I'm looking for.

So I'm back to assessint #plume as a solution for federated blogging and looking for a way to make this project work.
"Plume needs to be compiled from source." Ah... Gotta love simple installation processes...
Oh my Lordi! How much do I have to learn before I can setup #Plume!? First I have to use Git, then I have to install a bandwagon full of dev tools because I have to compile from source, then I have to migrate the database, and for THAT I need to, guess what, install another dependency!? Nooo... This is ridiculous... What the!
I hope this is just a misunderstanding. Because this is... simply not doable for me at the moment.
I... No. I want to, but I can't. This is nothing I can just do...

I mean...!
Installing Plume ⋅ Plume documentation

Ahh... Sad thing. So do I try to somehow make writefreely work on shared hosting? Guess I have to.
Okay. Perhaps I'll get #writefreely to work on shared hosting. Need to know some more paths for the configuration, hope support can help!
Ah, it would be great if that worked...
(Feeling like the lowliest n00b person on the planet because the Plume installation is too much for me... Ah...)
@TQ maybe you can ask @Bat or @a000d4f7a91939d0e71df1646d7a48 if you need help
@DarckCrystale Thank you! Will do, as soon as I've delved a bit deeper and run into problems. @Bat @a000d4f7a91939d0e71df1646d7a48

@TQ Recently I read about a Wordpress plugin which provides federation for (self-hosted) Wordpress blogs.. here's one: https://getpterotype.com/

There's another one, which seems to do some things differently (but I'm not an expert): https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub/

If Wordpress is not an option for you, this information will of course help you little 🤔

@inthedarkwelive I've worked with Wordpress in the past and continue to do so in the present. I wanted a fully integrated mini-blogging site I can also open for other users, not just another behemoth of bytes somewhere. I liked the approach of medium, but I don't like their politics.
And I've already stumbled upon these plugins, thank you anyways.
