I wasn't trying to punish them all that much, tbh. He was the only one to fail a discern realities, and I just had him find a set of notes that contained part of a ritual for a huge, big bad flesh golem (to imply what was going on in the dungeon they found themselves kn).
Other than that, what I think he was upset about was when you get a mixed success in hack n slash you take damage, and if you fail even a normal, non-combat roll I get to make a move.
