Ok, so can anyone tell me how having accounts on multiple servers works? Do I need to make separate accounts for every server I want to be on and then redirect them to my favorite one or what?
@goblinrogue yep that's the case. You can follow across instances as long as you have the instance name [email protected] vs. [email protected]. you can add your various locations to the meta data on you profile to help direct people to where you are
@goblinrogue Yes. You create a new account for each server, but each account can follow anyone from any server.

@goblinrogue that's one way to do it - I have three accounts I use for three different purposes.

Some third-party Mastodon clients will let you read the public timeline of servers you don't have an account on, which can be a way to participate without actually having an account on the server.

Other ways to see people on other instances: the federated timeline (which can be a firehose of information) and searching on a hashtag.
