@selontheweb would not surprise me in the slightest. that being said, speaking as a former mattress salesman for IKEA, the markup on brand name mattresses is unreal. They cost like 300 bucks to make and sell for 1500. with margins like that, and considering they only need one person in a store per day, if you sell one mattress per day your store is likely running a profit

@selontheweb also you don't need to replace mattresses every 8 years. You can easily go 10 to 15 years without issue, and we warrantied ours for 25 years. mattress firm created the "replace every 8" slogan to get people to buy more mattresses

@selontheweb ikea has its own healthy amount of bullshit (see: founder ingvar kamprad's not-so-hidden ties to swedish fascism during world war ii; see also: the complicated corporate structure they use to avoid paying any taxes whatsoever) but I will say they actually are one of the less fucked up mattress manufacturers by a long shot
