Panasonic's human blinkers help people concentrate in open-plan offices
Panasonic's Future Life Factory is developing wearable blinkers, designed to limit your sense of sound and sight, and help you focus on what's directly in front of you.
"Hence the major effect of the Panopticon: to induce in the inmate a state of conscious and permanent visibility that assures the automatic functioning of power. [...] The Panopticon is a machine for dissociating the see/being seen dyad: in the peripheric ring, one is totally seen, without ever seeing; in the central tower, one sees everything without ever being seen."
@mardiroos hmmm, how do we say that we're reducing worker distraction, without hurting the sense of dread and observation that actually distracts them?
@mardiroos I've got a brilliant idea for how to improve my cubicle farm: cubicle extenders that reach to the ceiling, that will cut out a lot of distractions
@mardiroos this makes me think really strongly of the Better Off Ted where they made itchy, uncomfortable chairs because the angry office workers were more productive, and the rate of "quitting in rage and disgust" was low enough to be acceptable
@mardiroos I should rewatch it, I only remember scattered gags like the mouse and the semen quality. The little ads they played for their mad science products ruled hard and should just be a meme on their own.
