and to keep things interesting:
- the flight that had my suitcase delayed. i visited the airport 3 times today.
- my airbnb host locked herself when i got there. she fixed it with a borrowed ladder.
- phone ran out of battery at 10pm, had to use visual memory to reach the airbnb
oh to be clear i consider yesterday's ~adventure~ to be fun overall. seriously.

today had less chaos that personally affects me and more chaos that i can do things to improve. had a blast. i love chaos*

there's a small river that somehow has waves and a bunch of people taking turns to surf them
munich (or this part of munich) is extremely green. sounds like it would be a lovely place to live in, you know, hypothetically,
[meanwhile, the schengen border guy who noticed that my website links to this twitter notices these posts and calls the police for implying things about staying while on a tourist visa]
(the madrid passport control guy didn't even look at my plane tickets. the luggage check-in girl from my airline put more effort validating that, for some reason)
65536 hours of play time of papers please modded so that you get paid either way even if you make mistakes so you approve anything that vaguely resembles a legit passport
i like how i adapted so quickly to this timezone, i'm doing my usual midnight shitposting five hours earlier than usual
me irl
so far munich airport (on my way to AMS) was the first to force me to stay hydrated^W^Wempty my water bottle
oh i also got 80 grams of gel of unspecified density through human validation, but i guess that's trivially below 100ml if you do the maths, unless i did it wrong. was mostly worried because the total volume of the container is above that.
transavia cancelled my flight without providing any alternatives, cool. guess i'm stuck in germany forever.
come to münchen hbf in the next hour, frankfurtmflughafenfernbf in the next 5 hours and a half, köln hbf in the next 8 hours, or amsterdam centraal in the next 11 hours if you want an ass kicking

while waiting for this first train i had a nice conversation with a guy who recognized me from the cancelled transavia flight because of my hat :3

he knows dutch, english, german, latin and a little spanish so we talked about grammar and word roots.

ah, my favorite anime,
i'm in first class like some sort of rich person, because at 170 eur it's cheaper than 2nd class, and as expensive as a hotel night (i'm not a fan of oktoberfest). it's comfy but not enough to replace a proper bed. it'd be easier to sleep if people stopped talking.
a staff person walked by and offered to take one from a tray full of those. TL note it says "train train i love my station"
frankfurt looks cute so far
did i really hear train staff announce "ladies and gentlemen please take care of your belongings there's strange people walking around"
neat, as soon as the train crossed the border i got two different 'welcome to the netherlands' SMS from each simcard (UK / AR, former has free EU roaming, latter has free UDP roaming)
where does the EU fit in the OSI model anyway. proof that OSI is a bad model imo
going to paris, o rly no wai!!!!!
🖼️
heheheh my UK simcard from carrier "EE" has free roaming in .fr through "free". fr ee. heheheheheheh

what, did you expect relaxing vacations just chilling and not doing much? too bad! here's three time limited activities that need to be done today because there's no tomorrow

(this is fun tbh, altough oof owie my bank account hurts)

oh i get it, french trains announce in 5+ languages to avoid acknowledging that english won
back in germany they told me to follow the rules, always wait for traffic lights, always be on time, etc, so i did.
apparently here in france i'm supposed to jaywalk everywhere and be late to everything, so that's what i'm doing
i'm having decent luck getting people to speak english. even an old lady who was asking me how to use a machine! i can pretend to know written french but spoken is gibberish to me.
FUN ADVENTURES
it's one of those days that make you go "bitcoin is good, actually"
i successfully configured a SIP calling app, "zoiper" (after two failed attempts with linphone and sipdroid) to use callcentric to be able to call visa to try to unblock my cards, with partial success (credit is fucked, debit will allow extractions in two hours)
on the bright side we got chocolate
anyway we're in this very long train from paris to lyon part dieu: electric boogaloo
despite everything, we're early
i could have changed my flight and see them in paris two days ago but an ~adventure~ to lyon seemed more ~fun~. that's still ~technically correct~
this whole thing is making me realize that maybe i was rich before this trip (for south american values of rich)
so i'm on a bus leaving lyon, going back to paris to catch my flight to london tonight.
i got an AC socket here charging my phone, already slept a couple of hours in here, and window looks like pic. good moment to explain what happened.
wednesday morning:
transavia flight didn't betray me this time, got to ORY in time, immediately found @[email protected] wearing a highly recognizable VLC (very large cone) hat from last week's videolan dev days.
we got to the paris center, which at times looks an awful lot like i never left buenos aires. some of this shit's like, average corrientes y callao architecture. some parts are neater though.
[intermission: they asked us to leave the bus for 30 mins so i got food. the girl said she knew "a little" english which seems to mean as much as my french, so i ordered the wrong thing, but it ended up being cheaper and still delicious. not pictured, i ate it]
anyway wednesday afternoon:
we had lunch (ordered secret stuff off the french-only menu, not listed in the english one, turned out to be minced chicken and mashed potatoes)
...and started planning the first ~adventure~ involving, uhm, printers. also, running.
the day before, while still in NL, i got an email from the canada visa thing implying that it might be approved but they need me to send the passport physically. this is uh. tricky while staying only 3 days in france. but decided to give them a visit and try to talk about it.
the plan involved potentially cancelling non-refundable flights to stay another week in france but still make it to canada, stuff like that. hence the bank account hurting.
long story short, canada is cancelled, everything fell through because i got there 4 minutes after the closing time (16:30), not a soul inside, running wasn't enough. so yeah, RIP.
i'll do the passport stuff when i'm back in argentina, and might try rebooking canada (if it hurts less than cancelling)
soooo, moving on, later that day we were supposed to meet with @[email protected] who, surprisingly, actually has a physical presence!
we sort of did meet! in chunks! because i screwed up and remembered i had a limited window for the airbnb checkin between 17 and 19 so.. i vanished for like two hours after we met ;_;
that airbnb wasn't even that good, was a few shared rooms with 6 people per room. does the job and it's 25 euros booked the day before, won't complain too much.
anyway during that time i left @[email protected] talking with @[email protected] and when we met again and tried to speedrun one section of the louvre museum but they refused to sell tickets to @[email protected] because it was closing in 30 mins ;_;
it's basically a train station with statues
also cool rooms (didn't take more pics because it's the sort of beauty cameras don't capture well, or at least not mine)
then we had pizza because it seems we're all negatively-opinionated about food. my randomly picked pizza might have had pineapple and i didn't care.
dang, i told myself i'd avoid political posts here, sorry
thursday's plan was more concise: go to lyon, see alcest, go to airbnb in lyon. simple enough right? heheheh.
oh i should clarify that i find this chaos *fun*, even if unfortunate sometimes. when it really sucks is when it affects others, but apparently this one was less chaotic than average for bofh, who may be cursèd

but tldr: train cost went up to 194 eur, oof. SNCF is awful at accepting non-french cards. ATMs rejected them too. international phone calls aren't real. had to do the SIP thing mentioned earlier.

ended up solving it by finding 200 eur in my emergency money stash in my suitcase.

was it worth it? hell yeah. i fucking loved it. and bofh, who hadn't heard a single song by alcest before, liked it a lot too :3
here are some attempts at photos
@dx I feel stressed out just reading about your adventures. Phew… Please have a few days where things go according to plan.
@dx but just outside the Louvre proper was a temporary exposition, “NAKAMA des ARTS” by Shingo Katori so this is where I was. https://japonismes.org/fr/officialprograms/「nakama-des-arts」展

@dx The one piece from the expo that impressed me because it is, hmm, very interpretative, is this one, after the Cartier watch “Tank”. https://twitter.com/cartier/status/932972071054868481 (it does not look at all like the watch)
