I don't get people defending "that scene" from Final Fantasy X saying it's been taken out of context, etc.

Even with the proper context it's extremely awkward and annoying.

@RobsteinOne I thought to myself, oh hey, I bet this scene isn't NEARLY so bad in Japanese and we can blame the mediocre English dub! How wrong I was... https://youtu.be/mAgVjH9V9Ps?t=6m55s
FFX: Undub - 22 "Laughing scene" (Japanese)

@RPGRabbit That's another thing that bugs me about FFX. People getting excited about the characters having spoken dialog when most of it is Not Very Good. At best. :P
@RobsteinOne To be fair, the Japanese voice acting IS much better as a whole. The game was localized before the industry seemed to put much real effort into their dubs. ALL I WANT from #SquareEnix is an official Japanese language patch so I can play it in its original language. I know I could mod the Steam release, but I already the damn remaster on PS3.
@RPGRabbit That would definitely be nice. These days pretty much the only JRPGs that I don't go with subs over dubs is Persona.
@RobsteinOne Oooh, the Persona dubs are so good. I also particularly enjoy the #NiNoKuni dubs. The accents are really adorable.
@RPGRabbit I haven't played enough of Ni No Kuni to have much of an opinion on the dubs. I just couldn't get into it. :P
@RobsteinOne It seems to be one of those games that people were either "meh" or "OMG GOTY". As a staunch #Ghibli and #Level5 fan, it was pretty much everything I ever wanted in a #JRPG. #NiNoKuniII isn't AS good, but I still love running around the gorgeous world, and once the devs added a Hard mode, the combat became pretty fun.
@RPGRabbit It was definitely pretty, and I liked the setup, but it just didn't grab me like I expected it to. I was sold as soon as Studio Ghibli was mentioned and was really looking forward to it, then I got to the desert town and was hit with an enormous wave of "meh." 🤷‍♂️
@RobsteinOne It really didn't do anything new, it just did it pretty. I also think I was in a point in my life where I absolutely needed a beautiful fairy tale.
