Too few people are aware of JavaScript browser fingerprinting libraries: http://valve.github.io/fingerprintjs2/ and http://beaverbird.com/ are just two examples of OSS ones. What @[email protected] says: your browser’s private mode is _not_ private. #Privacy

Fingerprintjs2 test

@tomayac terrifying. I tried the valve page as a test with Firefox, and the fingerprint generated was different for a "private" window. Are the private implementations different across browsers? (I had "tracking disabled" set in the private window)
@tomayac sad thing is, it's possible this was developed with "good" intentions, to better service users in some way, but MAN the scary uses are way too prevelant

@tomayac Beaverbird comes up with the same fingerprint however.

I don't get the language on the Beaverbird site.

> "BeaverBird is a user tracking library with the aim of making you feel unsafe on the Web."

If this is a proof-of-concept I'd appreciate some thoughts from the developer on protecting oneself, or what browser vendors could do.

@sivy You would have to ask the makers of the library what their motives were.
