This morning, thinking about #florence and #mangkhut, I'm reminded of that report from a while back about how energy usage from mining cryptocurrency is rolling back some of the measures we've taken against climate change.

There is no ethical cryptocurrency under global warming.

@phildini For this purpose, do you presume “blockchain” in “cryptocurrency”? I know that’s the most common usage, but I can (vaguely) imagine cases where it needn’t, in which case it could avoid the environmental issues.

(Mind you, I’d still think the whole thing was mostly dumb; this is just an academic question.)
