"This week people in our community confronted me about my lifetime of
not understanding emotions. My flippant attacks in emails have been
both unprofessional and uncalled for. Especially at times when I made
it personal. In my quest for a better patch, this made sense to me.
I know now this was not OK and I am truly sorry."

@k fucking hell, plot twist
@aeonofdiscord @k is this the start of linus's redemption arc?
@hierarchon @aeonofdiscord idk, I'm glad earth's writers have decided to throw some positive stories into the mix

@k whoa

odds that any of the “Linus is mean because meanness makes software better, so we’re gonna be mean too” crowd will similarly introspect are probably nil unfortunately

@elchapo if he realizes that "tooling" includes the code of conduct and formalized ways to manage a community, those people will at least be pushed out of kernel dev, which is a start
@k oh for sure. I’d just like to see them gtfo out of the non-kernel spaces where I work too
@k this is fantastic! I.. Like. I'm kind of speechless.
@maloki @k is it bad that my first thought wasn't "good for Linus" but rather "ugh, you know there's someone writing a 'linus has gone soft, Linux will start going downhill' hot take"
@balrogboogie @k yeah, but also a lot of people writing or thinking about why this is good.
@maloki @k I know, I should focus on the positive
@maloki @k I know, I should focus on the positive
@k wow I never expected to hear that coming from Linus
@k takes a big man to admit when they might be wrong about something. Kudos to him
Linus Torvalds excuses for being a dick : #priceless
@k I'll miss his insults
@minus you're gonna have to befriend him so he can use them on you personally and have you know he doesn't mean it
@k whoa. I wonder what made him reconsider. And I wonder if it will last.

@k This could be a good thing.

I do hope he only drops/stops the meanness and remains *frank*. When people would criticize him for being mean, he'd make a very good case for being frank--and though he was obviously conflating these things (ironically, in a mirror of how others conflate them), it was still a good point.

Ideally, we get earnest, frank, and not-mean Linus out of this.
