I was 18, in an alley near my dorms, smoking a joint before intro to psych when I found out. All the forced patriotism that followed caused me a lot of anxiety. It was like if you weren't waving an american flag all the time you were no better than the terrorists. Plus, my best friend, who was from India, got harassed all the time afterward because of his skin tone. Sadly, the forced patriotism and harrassment still happens today.
