In America, since we don't have the social nets they have, unions fight to keep jobs, even if they're dangerous and stupid because without work, you die.

Shy bunny@thatcosmonaut The UK alleviated that problem, you know. Now, you can get hired - just, on a "zero hours" contract, essentially formalising day labor, so people don't have any idea what their income will be, month to month.
