@prolezone this sounds, to me, like a really shitty, confusing, overwhelming experience for the writer, but also is there even an accusation being leveled beyond "John Darnielle is a bad friend who makes too many demands on people's time and attention"?
@Pixley as far as i can tell, no. which makes the updates to it where the author is like "we need to shame him until he doesn't have this power he needs to be stopped" extremely concerning to me.
@prolezone yeah, I mean, there is definitely a cult of Mountain Goats fandom, and I sincerely hope John didn't hurt anyone because of it, but this is a really weird situation. I hope the writer is okay.
@Pixley also, people come up to him at signings and talk about their abuse to him, lean on him emotionally, all kindsa stuff. he's also a survivor of abuse. like he's not acting like this in a vacuum. it's definitely some weirdo shit but painting him as a predator for it is not great
