@BeechMtn I've definitely been sitting with these questions for the past few days, and, for the moment, I think an intentional approach to scale is worth for the moment pursuing for a few reasons - there's value in having professionally moderated "public squares," and a certain scale is needed to achieve that, and a general purpose democratic instance could have democratic literacy spillover effects of the type @KeithTaylor is fond of, among other things.
@BeechMtn That said, my sense of a "plan B," as I articulated a bit in the Purpose post, would be to have members pitch different co-op instance ideas to the membership, and have the parting of the ways be the launch of a swarm of smaller democratic instances. I'm following the talk of potential "groups" in future versions of Masto, but also would be interested in a #CoopWaterCooler type instance for co-op professionals, volunteers, & activists. cc: @LeoSammallahti
