Big Pokemon fight:
@Loa can you name all the pokemon?
Me: *Purposely says all the names wrong, but still "right"*

If studying pragmatics (linguistics) ever taught me anything is that you don't have to use the right word to make yourself understood, as long as the other person understand what you mean when you say a word.

This is how language evolves and Pokemon also evolve or devolve :D

@maloki

Yes! One of my pet peeves is when someone says “that’s not a word.” If you knew what it meant when you heard it, then it’s a word.

@mkb @maloki this is something I've had to learn over the last few years. I was a chronic corrector, because I thought for some reason it was important.

It's ableist and racist and plays heavily to white colonialism.

@kat @maloki

Yeah, I’ve had my own battles with being a corrector, just not in that particular way. 😀

@maloki I used to be able to name the original 151 from memory!

I've since ruined that by giving my party silly nicknames whenever I've gone back to play Pokemon Red or Gold.

Nothing strikes fear into the hearts of your enemies though like Snuggles the Charizard and Flubber the Snorlax!

@maloki Daaaaamn I never got pragmatics and I find that such a big gap in my education.
