As much as #VisibleWomen and similar hashtag trends are cool, I'd like to see ones for people with more liminal identities. Not everyone fits neatly into a single gender, race, culture or sexuality. I think the only one I've felt comfortable with was #STEMartists cuz... Yeah.
I'm sure I'm not alone in the sort of square-peg-in-round-hole feeling when you try to apply a cultural label to yourself that doesn't really fit. Or maybe you do fit a label but just don't like the label.
And it isn't just a matter of self-identification, but to say "I'm a [XYZ] artist!" you're not just labeling yourself, you're affecting the way people perceive your art. Now your art is "art by a [XYZ] person" and I bristle when my stuff is bucketed into those categories
