I am still a big science nerd, and used to be even more of one. But I am starting to feel like we as a society should be putting resources into sorting out social problems before investing so much in space stuff and particle physics. But I have a weird guilt for thinking that ?
@jimi This makes a lot of sense to me, both the initial thought and the guilt. It's hard to realize that worthwhile things, especially ones we've built an identity around, are . . . how to put it . . . not priorities?
@MoMartin that's a good way of expressing it. I also have a lot of friends who do see these things as priorities, and even built careers and lives around them. It adds to the conflicted feeling
@jimi I mean, sometimes, when it comes to science and art taking up money that would be quote unquote "better" spent elsewhere, I do try and remember that like, we can do two things. We're a big species. It's not space exploration or huge art installations fault that Capitalism doesn't allocate resources well.
