@Gargron I’m very new to Mastodon and have two questions. 1) what kind of database backend do you use ? I ask re last night’s deadlocks due to possible client issues. I have decades of DB experience and might be able to help.
2) How do users handle spoof accounts like say if I create wilw at mastodon.social but he (actor Wil Wheaton) is really on as wilw at mastodon.cloud ?

@Supergeek 1) PostgreSQL 2) Kind of the same as if it was e-mail. There's fake gargrons out there but people know I'm on mastodon.social. Keybase or linking from your homepage are possible out-of-band verification methods

@Gargron @Supergeek Your using the term "out-of-band" reminded me of a wonderful science fiction novel entitled "A Fire Upon the Deep." If you like SF, you should check it out!
