I've seen lots of toots about how the mastodon timeline is chronological

BUT

Boosts cause things to float back up to the top, even if I've already seen them.

I've read it once, I don't need to read it again.

@lupine So what's the solution? Forbid boosting? Hide boosts of things that were already on home tl?
@modulux Just leave them in their chronological place. I don't understand why the UI thinks I want to read the same thing once per person I know who likes it.
@lupine Hmm, but if they're not shown on top, people who haven't seen them before probably won't see them.

@modulux If it's on my timeline at all, I've seen it.

If it's added to my timeline by a boost, it occupies a slot at the time it was boosted.

I don't see why other people boosting it needs to repeatedly push it to the top.

@lupine @modulux Yeap; or at least leave it in place if you've already read it.
@lupine @kellerfuchs Yeah, that'd work.
@modulux @kellerfuchs I guess I should file an issue now so you don't accuse me of liberalism ๐Ÿ˜…
@lupine @kellerfuchs Well you know it: to complain and not to report, this is the 12th type of liberalism.
Pevent boosts from reordering timelines ยท Issue #8303 ยท tootsuite/mastodon

I like to read from old to new in the Mastodon UI. While doing so, I'll often read a toot which is subsequently boosted by one of my followers. This boost causes the toot to be reordered from s...

@lupine boosted! ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ‘
@lupine its nice to see someone discovered it
