a week and a day ago I learned that Darrin Barnett, a friend of mine from over two decades ago, had passed away. a week ago, I wrote an eulogy. today, I finished editing it and posted it to DreamWidth. https://elynne.dreamwidth.org/2299381.html

em hotep, Darrin.
@Leucrotta

@troodon wait, the cemetery isn't the Piedmont cemetery with all the really gorgeous Celtic crosses and big elaborate 19th century mausolea?
@Leucrotta it certainly is. :) I particularly love the "Chapel of the Chimes," a columbarium down the road from the actual cemetery--that place is *beautiful* inside.
@troodon I think I've been there! It's right outside, and it's like something out of a D&D game or something where you go into one room and it connects to another and another and another and pretty soon you realize that you're *not* thinking your way through and need to retrace steps back right?
@Leucrotta yes! full of flowers and running water and with occasional surprise cages of singing birds, if they've been able to keep their standards up? and then you get to the top levels up the slope and realize there's *multiple* levels and the place is about twice as big as you'd thought coming in... XD
@troodon The only time I've been they didn't have the birds but everything else checks out. I think now I remember in the front they had this actual chunk of Gutenberg bible, like the actual ones they printed out.
@Leucrotta oh wow, I didn't remember seeing that... sheesh, now I want to go back. again! some more!

@troodon alav ha-shalom.

Did you ever get to hear him play drums? Darrin and Kaerla joined AMUH sometime after Mama Maeva took over, and the house lost it's weird dislike of Xango and consequently the drumming got a *lot* better. If you believe in this stuff, Darrin's "head" couldn't be anyone *other* than Xango and he was *awesome*. It didn't hurt that Kaerla was merely a very very good drummer by comparison.
