@dietpepsi @sacatania First wave was linux enthusiasts, second was gay furries, third was trans anarchists and witches, fourth was anime shitposters, and fifth was sex workers. Roughly, anyway.
@ghost_bird @sacatania @dietpepsi What ? We're only the third wave ? I though we were the second. I'm so disappointed ^^

@alice @sacatania @dietpepsi I guess I’m counting the initial users as a wave? Go ahead and subtract one if you like.
@ghost_bird @dietpepsi @sacatania \o/ Yay, I can substract one \o/ More seriously, I wondered if you had a chronology of those waves. Do you count the opening of witches.town as the «trans anarchist» wave ? Or was that even before ? And do you know when it opened ? I have no idea how long it had been around when I joined.

@alice It’s more mythology than history to be honest. I think witches.town was quite new when I joined in the wave of April 2017 - it certainly got much bigger soon after - but I don’t have a proper chronology. And I remember people talking about the furries as a previous wave.
The anime shitposters were niu.moe, of course - November 2017 - and switter was this April.
@alice (There was also a wave of signups from Black Twitter when some popular accounts were banned, but they found Mastodon too white and didn’t stick around.)
@ghost_bird Thanks for the historical recap / mythological tale. I had very vague consciousness of niu.moe and switter to be honest. And I joined witches.town very soon after you did, it must have been end of april or may at the latest but it was for sure after march.
It's a real shame that Mastodon was deemed too white and that we weren't inclusive enough to make black twitter users feel at ease.

@alice Still a problem, I gather. Not so much overt racism as a lot of “not all white people” and “all lives matter” popping up any time a PoC tries to talk about race.
