EBGAP: Error Between Google and Privacy

The year is 2031, and I’m going to see Avengers 7 in 8K-vision. I hop in my Goober self-driving car and notice something strange – my location is displayed on the Goober Dashboard, even thou…

@succfemboi @rysiek would be great if these changes were rolled into chromium-browser in major distros
@privacylab @succfemboi indeed. How do we put pressure on them?

@rysiek @privacylab @succfemboi This will take diplomacy. There are people who are using Chromium specifically for its Google-ness.

If the Debian chromium-browser package maintainers are convinced, that's a big start that will influence other distros.

To keep the debate civil and remove unnecessary friction, it might make sense to simplify the install of Google Chrome via package managers (esp. in Ubuntu/Mint) to not alienate people who want Google or are coerced to use Google for school/work.

@diggity @privacylab @rysiek there probably needs to be an alternative to the chrome webstore.

As I'm aware Waterfox and Pale Moon are trying to create their own alternative addon-store. Due to the rise of webextensions, one can develop addons for both chrome and FF at the same time
@succfemboi @privacylab @rysiek This can be a *lot* of work if you're going to be strict about Free Software licenses... Trisquel did this with Abrowser.
@diggity @rysiek @privacylab @succfemboi what about the biggest chromium distro: electron?
@hirojin @privacylab @rysiek @diggity I think they've removed things like addon support

@succfemboi @privacylab @rysiek @diggity which, in some applications, let's be honest, is a problem ;)

i'd rather keep uBlock in many a web app…
…i have pi-hole running on the laptop, so, some progress, but still.

@hirojin @diggity @rysiek @privacylab not everyone has pi-hole and NoTrack is better.
There actually is an electron-based browser https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15Aq7GksBOk
