As a part of the artistic residency Atelier an der Donau, I was honored to visit Artstetten Castle and meet with Princess Anita von Hohenburg, a descendant of Franz Ferdinand.

This painting is rather small - only 50x40 cm. It responds to the tram history of the city Ybbs an der Donau.

The city used to have trams from 1907 to 1953 but they were closed. Now, only old photos remind about this transport. I used some of those photos to bring old trams back to life, even if only in a painting.

This diptych “Birch Tram” (acrylic on canvas, 60*80 cm each) was presented at the final exhibition after a week in the residency Atelier an der Donau.

Every year this residency invites artists all over the world to spend a week in a fully-equipped painting atelier. I am honored to be one of the artists in September of 2022.

Trams have been part of my painterly imagination and focus of my artistic curiosity. This painting I did during while being artist in residency in Ybbs an der Donau, a charming town in Austria.

More about the residency - Atelier an der Donau - in the next posts.
