I think a lot about how prepping is a gateway to right-wing extremism because it focuses on individualism, supply hoarding, and hyper-local feudalism.
If you look at the like just absolute shitload of times that shit has, indeed, hit the fan, the adventurous, post-apocalyptic collapse of society unilaterally across the continent didn't like...happen? The thing about humanity that makes us (for better or worse) the absolute apex creature on this planet is how absurdly fast we can coordinate and work together to solve problems.
ACTUAL prepping would look like restorative agriculture, sustainable foraging, seed saving, companion planting, basic joinery, thatching, and short-to-medium-term food storage. Don't even get me STARTED on composting and fermenting animal and human waste to supplement agricultural development and deal with sewage.
Nobody wants to stab you so that they can have the most cans of baked beans or whatever. People just want to feed their fucking kids and not feel like their neighbors are hoarding potted meat and waiting for an excuse to shoot them.
