So, one of the use cases in my search for Wordpress alternatives is falling short in the research section. Trying to search things out in a slightly different way.

To elaborate, Im now trying to search CMSes by level of community involvement. With Wordpress, there once was a diverse set of plugins. Any website function or display you could think of, and there was a Wordpress plugin for it.

Like, what CMSes are thriving (with community) in this era of mass enshittification?

No idea what has recently happened with Wordpress, but I hear talk about finding alternatives again

Already, I have been using my "website with robust photo gallery/albums" as my main use case when searching for a CMS. However, I still want to find a CMS that is as universal to different use cases. One thing I like about CMSes like Backdrop and Wordpress, was that the website was open ended to start. No matter the use case, there were plugins (add-ons) for many types of website function.

From my website dev sandbox, here is a list of CMSes I have looked into (and might spin an instance up)

- Drupal (Version 10? Version 11?)
- ClassicPress (fork of wordpress)
- TextPattern (Version 4.x)
- Craft CMS
- Flatpress (another fork)
- VVVeb (CMS with drag-and-drop)
- Typemill (CMS for Manuals, Documentation and Wikis)
- Frappe
- Statamatic (Laravel based CMS)
- Joomla (Version 6.x. Admittedly, not one of my favorites)

Fedi folks, I turn to you for advice with a bit of a problem. I co-admin an ActivityPub-enabled Wordpress site with 15+ years worth of blog posts and a couple of long podcast series. When WP announced [their "vision" to become a CMS for ...

So, Your CMS Blew Up. Any Decent WordPress Alternatives Out There?

If your favorite content management system feels like it’s sinking into a shallow well of hubris, you might want alternatives. I have a few ideas.

Tedium: The Dull Side of the Internet.

Something I've found with #wordpress alternatives is a lot of good aspects of WP can't be replicated due to the alts' business models.

Such as users - I have a client with a crapload of editors/contributors for magazine articles, and most alts have a limit on users until you get to a high paying plan.

Or audience views - this applies more to hosted solutions but doesn't affect the WP CMS itself.

Or weird pro licences for additional features or hosting opportunities.

It all very much depends on your requirements I suppose; for simple blogs there are a lot of options (especially if you're dev-inclined) but for more broad client requirements you'll probably be looking at a more complex platform.

I wrote up a quick list of #cms 's that I could think of as alternatives to #wordpress. Going to try as many of these out as I can. Most run on #php or #node, I'd love to get a bigger list together. Let me know of others that I missed! https://jasonlawton.com/blog/2024/10/cms-list/

I wonder if there is an open source/free CMS out there that I can replace my Wordpress site with. The biggest site I care about has a great gallery, complete with albums
