@natebeaty true story, I migrated some of those ancient Rails apps for customers who fled the #Webfaction debacle and they're chugging along on Opalstack today. 🙂

Moved from #WebFaction to #Linode not so long ago to escape #GoDaddy Now I need to move again to escape #Akamai - how long till I need to move again?

Capitalist competition is a myth and 'choice' is a not so convincing illusion.

#Webfaction users who don't want to migrate to the worse hosting apparently have until the end of March to make arrangements. I went with @[email protected] and their migration tool seems to work for wordpress sites. We'll see how the rest goes.

@wendy This is cool! But it seems to require #sox. Annoyingly, my hosting, #webfaction, is shutting down and I'm being migrated to  #tsoHost, which seems to have fewer features, so I can't rely on on any command line programs.

I really should look for a host more like webfaction is/was, as they let me do really a lot of things and had command line access, etc.

Setting up #letsencrypt on #webfaction today for some of my wife's client's sites. I hope I can remember how I overcame all the problems I encountered last time!
Long shot but... anyone on #WebFaction hosting. Could be useful to have some compatriotes.

So #WebFaction notifies me about a server migration. “[...] to a new server Web535, in our new datacenter with better hardware, on Thursday.” The only action to take is to update A records in DNS settings.

Nowhere in any of this message do they inform that the server is actually going to now be a CentOS7 (was CentOS5) and is 64bit.

Nice way to have your entire morning ruined by an urgent unplanned db & system migration.
