Years ago I read, in a #shortstory collection (I think translated from English to German):
An expedition is evaluating whether some #planet is suitable for human #colonisation, for example, whether there's already an intelligent lifeform there. The narrator is the #Xenolinguist and tries to analyze some sounds by tuning the parameters of the #translationmachine. He is succesful after forcing it to only consider the #gaps between the sounds.
