Dette må være noe av det spinnvilleste jeg noensinne har gjort. Men jeg kunne simpelthen ikke la denne muligheten gå fra meg, som har drømt om å spille live med andre blokkfløytister siden jeg begynte spille.

I decided that I wanted to learn to play bass recorder. Since I can't even play a tenor recorder properly (my fingers don't stretch far enough to cover the holes properly), a real bass is out of the question. Alto recorders, however, are in the same key as bass recorders. So I got myself a second alto recorder that I can pretend is a bass.

Lesson number one, of course, is that the sharps and flats are not in the same place in the bass clef as they are in the treble clef.

I'm back from the Lifeline Bookfair, and I've discovered that Steve Rosenberg didn't just create "The Recorder Book", but also "The Recorder Book 2." The first one was already a requirement in our family recorder trio, and now there's a second one.

@barnetboy @andijah check out #TeamRecorder on Youtube; there, Sarah Jeffery takes it on herself to bring the joys of it to the masses, with quick how-to-play-the-notes, FAQs, playalongs, tests of cheap recorders and nice toys like digital wind instruments, recordings of her playing complicated pieces to just enjoy, and, best of all, she and Lucie Horsch roasting TwoSet Violin (who later took actual recorder lessons to atone).

My finger gymnastics aren’t what they were as kid either, but I found I can still play decent enough.

I was playing recorder trios with my family this afternoon, and I think that the sulfur crested cockatoo on the back porch was... interested.

I could have been imagining it.
