If you weren't able to catch it live, my @TheLeadDev #StaffPlusLondon slides are here: https://hollycummins.com/efficiency-staffplus
What was the they about? Erm, queueing theory, stupid processes, AI code assistants, three-legged dogs, kangaroos, Taylorism, zombies, and a few other things.
We're all done with #staffpluslondon 2024, it's been an absolute whirlwind. I have so many people to thank!
First of all, a huge thank you to all the amazing speakers. Talks are half the experience though, we have had wonderful activity hosts facilitating table talks, community representation groups, workshops, AMAs, coaching and much more.
Also a huge thank you to the attendees for engaging and attending and listening diligently.
Holly Cummins @holly_cummins on Efficiency at #StaffPlusLondon
Visceral example of how efficiency is at odds with resiliency. A dog that loses a leg is still a dog. A stool losing a legs falls over.
For our last talk for #staffpluslondon 2024, we have @holly_cummins answering the question, “is efficiency a good thing?”
Nobody craves more inefficiency. Yet people make things inefficient. We have 25% of servers doing no work, servers are often running at 12-18% capacity. There is so much wastage!
We cling on to inefficiency, this has to do with incentives
