I'm not sure which 3D scanner is best for this but the dual mode model he uses (Creality Raptor X at around $7k with tax and peripherals) is a reasonable example.

I should have guessed that handheld 3D scanners had progressed since I last shopped around but wow, for less than $20k I can build a full portable rig (scanner, PC, pelican cases, etc) that blows away $500k rigs of just ten years ago. These hybrid units that use both laser and structured light from LEDs (e.g. the EinScan HX2) are wildly capable for the kind of work I want to do.
