Last week's #SOTU #response by #Katie #Britt contained a major #falsehood

And big name news outlets got beat to it by #Johnathan #Katz, a guy with a newsletter and a TikTok account

♦️Why didn’t the Associated Press, New York Times, Washington Post, or any other news organization have this story?
♦️Would any of them have eventually fact-checked that portion of her speech?
♦️Would they have all just let it slide?

It is a lot like what happened in 2022 as the story of then-Rep.-Elect #George #Santos began to unravel.
The Times reported on it, but missed it until after the election was over 💥and proceeded to get really irritated at the implication that the New York Times should do in-depth pre-election reporting on New York congressional races💥

From @parkermolloy:

"The trajectory of Richard #Hanania's career, from hidden extremist to celebrated conservative voice, mirrors a broader trend in American media and politics. As the boundaries of mainstream #conservatism have become more dominated by extreme ideas, mainstream media institutions, in pursuit of 'balance,' have felt compelled to shift rightward as well. This drive to avoid appearing biased in favor of liberal viewpoints has inadvertently opened the door to more radical ideologies, normalizing them within mainstream culture. In other words, it creates a right-wing bias. As the right becomes more extreme, media and society itself are pushed even more to the right."

From the Southern Strategy to essentially neo-Confederate states in 50+ years.

The Present Age

"For years, many right-wing media personalities denied the existence of climate change, dismissing it as a liberal hoax or an exaggeration. However, in recent years, there's been a noticeable shift in the narrative. The denial has morphed into a resigned acceptance with a new caveat: climate change is real, but there's nothing we can do about it."

Man, It's a Hot One!

Ben Shapiro recommends that people concerned about climate change should just spend more time inside with air conditioning, but that's not exactly a solution to the underlying problem. He knows this.

Parker Molloy: A great headline lets you know in the very first sentence that Kennedy’s claims are unfounded, then pivots to experts saying the same exact thing...This should be the standard for reporting on conspiracy theories. #headlines #onthemedia #readtpa https://www.readtpa.com/p/bad-headlines-made-better
Bad Headlines Made Better

News outlets need to come to terms with reality: most people don't read past the headline.

Had some thoughts on the disaster that was CNN's town hall with Trump. No paywall on this one: https://parkerm.co/wtfcnn #byPM #readTPA
The Head of CNN Thinks It's Journalism's Job to "Make News." That's a Problem.

Chris Licht's Trump-a-palooza event on Wednesday debased the very concept of journalism, striking a critical blow to the network's credibility. What's more: it won't win him any new viewers.

Seems particularly relevant today: No, it doesn't "say something about society" if you fall for a fake story. https://www.readtpa.com/p/fake-screenshots-gullible #readTPA #byPM
No, it does not "say something about society" if you fall for fake screenshots. It just means you're gullible.

Let's talk about confirmation bias.
