I'm still working on translating Rudolf Rocker's memoirs (and will be for quite a while). Right now I'm working on his chapter on Ravachol, who, in 1891, dynamited the homes of a prosecutor and a judge (both quite reactionary) who had sent some anarchists to prison with inordinately long sentences after they had been attacked by cops. The dynamite didn't kill anyone, though Ravachol readily confessed to having killed someone else in an unrelated incident (long story).

I mention it because Rocker cites a song that sprang up after Ravachol was executed. He says that "at the time, it was heard at every revolutionary gathering," and I'm reminded once again that radical politics really needs more singable music. This song is so damned fun and yet it must have scared the shit out of reactionaries and sleazy politicians at the time, given that it's a jaunty tune about dynamiting reactionaries and sleazy politicians. I dunno, I would've considered getting the hell out of Dodge if I fell into one of those categories.
