I'm a beginner cellist and recently learned to play the Largo from Dvořák’s New World Symphony, so I thought I’d put together a short video.
I'm not sure if you can hear it in this short snippet (there's a longer version on BlueSky) but does anyone know why my bow sometimes trembles? Could it just be nerves from playing on camera? 🤔
Also, at the end, I’m using the pivot method. Instead of shifting back, I’m using my thumb as a pivot to get back to d.
Any other cellist using this method? It was originally developed for double bass by François Rabbath but it works on cello, too!
It’s different but fantastic if you have small hands like me. 😅

Getting ready for an audition and going through some old sheet music for solo bass and came across this piece. One of the best things about playing upright bass is feeling the notes throughout your whole body, and this piece always made me feel like a giant resonating chamber.
