Hacker's meetup #3 + promítání Micro Men

Již třetí hackerské setkání v Trhlině – tentokrát i s kulturním programem!

Budeme promítat film Micro Men o začátcích osobních počítačů.

Sedmdesátá léta dvacátého století, ve firmě Sinclair Research pracuje Chris Curry, který přichází za šéfem Clivem Sinclairem s nápadem začít vyrábět stavebnicové počítače. Sinclair považuje nápad za bláznovství a pohádá se s Currym natolik, že se rozejdou. Curry na svém nápadu trvá tak zarputile, že v prosinci 1978 vzniká firma Acorn Computers, která začíná pracovat na svém vlastím prototypu počítače. Jenže mezitím už i Sinclair Research vyvíjí počítač. Rozjíždí se závody o prvenství, v nichž vítězí Sinclair. A pak vstupuje do hry veřejnoprávní televize BBC, která chce divákům představit počítač v praxi. A začíná jeden z nejtvrdších konkurenčních bojů mezi Sinclairem a Currym o zakázku pro BBC.

Film bude v angličtině s českými titulky.

Punctum Film Club #6: Suburbia (1983)

Punctum - Krásovka, neděle 21. června v 19:00 SELČ

At the 6th Punctum Film Club we present the debut feature film by "rock 'n roll anthropologist" Penelope Spheeris - Suburbia.

The story begins with Evan escaping from his abusive alcoholic mother. After attending a punk gig, he finds a new home in an abandoned building in the Los Angeles suburbs alongside fellow young runaways. Soon, middle-class families from the neighbourhood notice the unorthodox squatters and decide to drive them away at whatever cost possible.

Suburbia explores themes of youth alienation, generation gap, broken families, violence, all wrapped around the both positive and negative sides of punk subculture. The director Penelope Spheeris wrote Suburbia based on real stories from people around the Los Angeles punk scene, and hired local musicians and youth instead of professional actors (and yes, one of those musicians is the future RHCP founder and bassist Flea) and also included performances by bands D.I., The Vandals and TSOL. She first gained attention in 1981 with The Decline of Western Civilization, a cult documentary film about the LA underground scene, before directing more mainstream films like Wayne's World in the 90s.

Unfortunately, the investor Roger Corman conditioned funding of Suburbia by making it an exploitation film with sexual or violent scenes every 10 minutes, restrospectively lowering its cultural and historical value. Despite that, we still feel that Suburbia is an 80s essential.

All money raised from ticket sales and donations will go directly towards mutual-aid projects within Lebanon via the Lebanon Solidarity Collective.
This fundraiser is specifically dedicated to the land and people of the South of Lebanon.

Promítání filmu Earth’s Greatest Enemy

Dokument Earth’s Greatest Enemy od Abby Martin odhaluje Pentagon (armádu USA) jako největšího institucionálního znečišťovatele planety. Armáda Spojených států vyprodukuje více uhlíku než 150 zemí ročně a je vyňata z klimatických dohod. Film mapuje nejen emise a ničení ekosystémů po celém světě, ale zpochybňuje i demokratické fungování některých institucí.

Spojením investigativní žurnalistiky, silných vizuálních scén a příběhů postižených komunit dokument vyzývá diváky k přehodnocení skrytých nákladů globálního vojenského impéria a jejich dopadů na planetu. Provokativní, naléhavý a oči-otevírající dokument, který změní váš pohled jak na armádu, ekologii, tak instituce globálního Severu.

Film zatím nevyšel do kin a není veřejně dostupný. Promítání v Praze, v AC254, je proto jedinečná šance, jak jej vidět.

Karmína sa na prvého mája postará o prierez filmovou históriou, ktorej súčasťou vždy bola aj trieda pracujúcich a jej zápasy. 

Prostredníctvom krátkych filmov a komentovaných úryvkov z diel svetovej kinematografie sa v neformálnej atmosfére pozrieme na to, ako film zobrazoval prácu, vykorisťovanie a odpor – od prvého záberu, ktorý Lumièrovci nakrútili pred bránami vlastnej továrne, až po platformovú ekonomiku. Vstup voľný.

We all perceive poetry differently. For some, a poem is a rhyming text, for others a metaphysical experience. For director Kateřina Dudová, it is an experiment with three people who are close to her, whom she places in one room for three days, leaving them to their fate with the task of writing a poem. Sometimes the recording of real events is more poetic than the poem itself.

Vasilis, a fanatical film lover and sharp critic, tries to convince his environment that Leni Riefenstahl, the Third Reich's filmmaker, was an overrated, talentless beast and not a great female pioneer of the 7th art. So he puts "Triumph of the Will", Riefenstahl's landmark film, under the microscope, and tries to discover its aesthetic "errors". Things take an unexpected turn when he discovers that at 1 hour 26 minutes and 54 seconds into the film…

This short film was initiated by a group of non-experts (mainly from Thessaloniki collectives Fabrica Yfanet, Machina and +technia-) who were aware of their limitations in terms of filmmaking. We explored this new terrain during a collectively organized production of 01:26:54. Using only basic equipment and without asking for financial sponsors or permission we would like to believe that we have contributed a short motion picture to one of the most significant ventures of our times: the fight against the inevitability of absolute order and control.

Promítání dokumentu "Brucia Ancora Dentro"

Poprvé v České republice budete mít na AFAfestu možnost vidět nový, jen 2 roky starý Italský dokument " Brucia Ancora Dentro", který rozebírá události kolem zavraždění mladého antifašistického aktivisty, kterého všichni znali jako Dax.

Dokument je celý přeložený s českými titulky!

Něco málo slov k dokumentu:

Po desetiletích se Milán opět stal svědkem politické vraždy: 16. března 2003 byl Dax, mladý antifašista, který vyrůstal na milánských předměstích a navštěvoval squaty v ticinské čtvrti, ubodán k smrti třemi pravicovými extremisty. O několik hodin později byli jeho spolubojovníci, muži i ženy, kteří dorazili na pohotovost, zmasakrováni policií.
Byla to milánská Černá noc, která znamenala zlomový okamžik v životech celé generace mladých lidí a do jejich historie vryla povinnost pamatovat si. Od té doby se Daxův příběh stal kolektivním odkazem v Itálii i Evropě, živou vzpomínkou, která výročí za výročím plní ulice Milána a formuje dnešní boje.

Hlasy přátel, společníků a neúnavné matky vyprávějí o událostech a pozadí oné noci, o soudním řízení a osobních zkušenostech, které i o dvacet let později stále silně inspirují nové generace.

Punctum Film Club #4: Working Girls

Punctum - Krásovka, neděle 12. dubna v 19:00 SELČ

At the fourth edition of Punctum Film Club we will screen the 80s cult film Working Girls by Lizzie Borden.

Set in a Manhattan brothel, which is aimed at an upper middle-class clientele, the film follows the daily life of sex workers and their madam. The main characters are Molly, a Yale graduate trying to make a living as a photographer, Gina, earning and saving money to open her own boutique, Dawn, a college student, and Lucy, the pragmatic brothel madam.

Although made and set in the 1980s, with its almost documentary-style approach it explores current topics such as exploitation of human labor, manipulation, consent, or politically correct use of language.

Lizzie Borden is an American filmmaker and writer. Reflecting on her filmography, she has said: “Born in Flames and Working Girls are the only two films I consider my own. The others were so radically re-cut and interfered with by producers, they're not 'mine', in any sense of the word.” We are grateful to Lizzie Borden for approving the screening of Working Girls at Punctum Film Club.
