I thought I might start up sharing here on Pixelfed again. I haven't posted anything in a long time, but seeing as how a lot of Social Media platforms are falling apart at the seems, I'm giving this one a lot more thought... This image was one I made a long time ago, and was perhaps my first foray into "environment illustration". The prompt word was "Isolation", and was given out from a kidlitart-focused website that had monthly challenges. I made a big image of what I thought Isolation was to me, trying to give it a good spin instead of the nightmare that Covid had just thrust upon us mere weeks before the prompt was given. It also was much more stylized than I was used to drawing, because I was pulling away from the heavy realism that was the world of most concept art and toward an approach that was more in the abstracted world of children's book art.

It didn't even make the top 16 that month, but it was one of my personal favorites up to that point. I'm still quite proud of it.

And given the nature of the last couple years in the illustration field it's symbolic of the energy I'm trying to hang on to... With Instagram's TikTok aspirations made clear and the impact that created on artists's reach, Covid lingering forever and eliminating art gatherings and conventions, Twitter imploding, DeviantArt and ArtStation embracing Artificial Intelligence image generators... It's been rough. And one can really fell all alone as an artist. I'm hoping Pixelfed helps to remedy that in my heart and my head.
