I like the purple blueish color of the Trek 820. Since just one kid will ride this, no fancy sand blasting and powder coating. Just a layer of #Owatrol Marine for protecting rust and partially replacing the worn clear coat.

That was the bike exactly two years ago. Lots of scars added since. I'll only do touch up with #Owatrol and try to keep the original paint.

My daughter went through the full adjustability range of the seatpost in eight months.

@jnbhlr That's a different application - PUR soft coatings are used to make cheap plastic feel more valuable.

But yes, boiled linseed or a bit more modern. Oil paintings have some charm. Unfortunately even #Owatrol Marine with curing aids takes nearly two weeks to fully cure.

Since Christopher @kinderradfinder hinted on it: The black #GtAllTerra is back since about 3 months, after two years away, it's too small for the 12yo son, so my 9yo daughter is using it. We already did some changes (Odi grips, saddle and seatpost, better brakes from Nutt).

Here it is side by side with my flatbar gravel build (the #Owatrol Gt with #LTWOO components). https://mattias.bike/2022/dad-and-daughter-flatbar-gravel/

Of course, sanding the tube, grease and a dive into the parts bin were sufficient for a smoothly operating 27.2mm seatpost. Tomorrow #Owatrol will be applied to conserve this ultra ratty look while still stopping further corrossion.
@escapist Yes, but this is only superficial, so using phosphoric (Coke) or citric acid (well, lemons) first and then preserving oil or #owatrol (thin) should suffice. But if you have Rostio or Fertan in the household: use it.
@JPProeger Eine schöne 45km Runde mit dem #Owatrol #GtAllTerra, viel #Gravel dabei.
@escapist @fixiecommuter Are you sure? Do you have calipers? A typical size for the clamp is 1¼ inches – 31.8mm. For the rust: If you want, I'll fill 50ml #Owatrol Marine in a caviar glass and send it to you by mail.
