Σαν σήμερα, το 1944, η Λέλα Καραγιάννη εκτελέστηκε από τους Ναζί μαζί με άλλους 27 αγωνιστές. Υπήρξε μέλος της αντιστασιακής οργάνωσης «Μπουμπουλίνα» κατά τη διάρκεια της Κατοχής. Η Λέλα Καραγιάννη συνελήφθη μαζί με τα πέντε παιδιά της, βασανίστηκε στα μπουντρούμια των Ες-Ες στην οδό Μέρλιν, και μεταφέρθηκε στο στρατόπεδο συγκέντρωσης Χαϊδαρίου Αττικής, όπου έμεινε άκαμπτη στις ανακρίσεις και τα βασανιστήρια.
