A little quibble with the NYT Crossword puzzle for today, 9 August 2024.

45 Across has this clue: "What awakens Godzilla from the ocean, informally." The answer has 5 letters.

I thought about what I put in carefully, because it occurred to me that there were two possible answers, but likely only one of them made sense historically.

Hit my goal for NYT Crossword for the week. My current personal goal is to keep my Monday - Sunday total time under 150 minutes. The past three weeks have been close, in the 152 - 156 minute range.

This week I hit 135 minutes for the week.

Feels good, and will keep working to get that time lower.

Solving the daily #NYTXword is something I look forward to every day. It's a bright spot in my life during these bleak times. Today I got a new time record, 3:28.

Wow, the NYT and the Stumper both went hard today. Look at all those scratch-outs. But I always enjoy some HOTCIDER (but please not from a K-Cup). No idea what DERNIERCRI is, either. I did love 51A in the Stumper, though; Jake is being ADORABLE and getting spoiled right now, in fact.

At least the Universal and LAT were easy today. Nice to see PANROMANTIC in a puzzle. And I'm hoping our landlord will be reasonable when we renew next year so no RENTSTRIKE will be required.
